THE AMERICANA ROCK MIX TOP 24 OF 2011

Yeah, yeah. It’s that time of year again. Everyone is doing it, and so am I. My top albums of 2011.

This was a really tough list to gather. 2011 was crammed with amazing music, so that just made the decision making that much harder.

34 people e-mailed and messaged me with suggestions of what my final top number should be this year. Suggestions ranged from “Top 10″ to “Top 53″! That wasn’t going to happen anyway. But the most common number suggested was “Top 24″.

I didn’t implement any rules into this years list. As that was too much of a pain last year. So, it all comes down to what I was personally listening to the most this year.

Hopefully you’ll find an album or two on here that aren’t on anyone else’s lists.

This list is in no particular order.

- Yes And Also Yes by Mike Doughty

- Dark And Bloody GroundFifth On The Floor

- I’m DeadMicah Schnabel (NOTE: Even though the physical album doesn’t get released until 2012, the pre-order instant download makes it a 2011 contender)

Music Video - "The Usual Suspects" by Ha Ha Tonka

A couple of weeks ago, on Americana Rock Mix: Episode 104 - Throw A Little Twang On It, I played some new tracks by Ha Ha Tonka from their new album "Death Of A Decade". The tracks that I played ("Problem Solver" and "Lonely Fortunes") were chosen because I KNEW that "The Usual Suspects" was going to blow up and I wanted to provide a little variety from this awesome album. I didn't want to do what everyone else was doing.

Well, here's a new treat for you guys. The song that I refused to play has a music video that IS worth playing. If the songs that I played for you guys wasn't enough for you to jump up and go out to purchase "Death Of A Decade" right away, maybe the catchiness of "The Usual Suspects" is. Enjoy.

Not much to say this episode. 'Cept some more "thank you's" to those people who have continued to donate to the Boris Fundraiser. Also I'm playing some good tunes, and a few are for the twang lovers.

Americana Rock Mix: Episode 35 - Learning To Add With Neil Young

In this episode I have my good friend Eric join me, and we take time to play some samples the newest Neil Young effort called "Fork In The Road" and do an audio review of it. In the end we gave it a rating of... well, you'll just have to listen to find out. But apparently I don't know how to add. So while you're listening to the show and yelling at me about how I don't know how to add, deduct half a point from what I said the final score was. Good thing I actually listen to this while I edit it!
