THE AMERICANA ROCK MIX TOP 24 OF 2011

Yeah, yeah. It’s that time of year again. Everyone is doing it, and so am I. My top albums of 2011.

This was a really tough list to gather. 2011 was crammed with amazing music, so that just made the decision making that much harder.

34 people e-mailed and messaged me with suggestions of what my final top number should be this year. Suggestions ranged from “Top 10″ to “Top 53″! That wasn’t going to happen anyway. But the most common number suggested was “Top 24″.

I didn’t implement any rules into this years list. As that was too much of a pain last year. So, it all comes down to what I was personally listening to the most this year.

Hopefully you’ll find an album or two on here that aren’t on anyone else’s lists.

This list is in no particular order.

- Yes And Also Yes by Mike Doughty

- Dark And Bloody GroundFifth On The Floor

Americana Rock Mix: Episode 125 - A Slightly Ranty Year Ender

This is the last episode of 2011!  It won't be the last that you hear from me this year, just the last ARM episode. I get a little rant-ish (ranty?) in this episode, so if you can get around that, there's plenty of new and awesome music to amuse you.

Pony Boy - Pony Boy EP

Pony Boy
Pony Boy EP

Submitted by: Rusty Hogan

From the Pony Boy Website:
Exploring themes of the Ol’ West and heartache, Pony Boy’s gravel-riddled tunes recall a 1950's nostalgia and Southern Gothic Soul.

I developed a bit of a routine for reviewing albums now. On the day's I'm in the office I pick an album from the several I've gotten recently (these I glean by giving each one a quick 30 second or so listen, it's got to grab me) and I'll play it over and over. It normally doesn't take long to figure out what songs I like and which ones I'll be skipping upon the next listen. With Pony Boy's self titled EP Pony Boy there wasn't any skipping of songs. From track 1 Saints and Lairs to track 5 The Murder Ballad of Carrie Lee  each song was a beautifully crafted lyrically haunting treasure. A wonderful soundtrack for these late fall days and nights. I hope to here more from Pony Boy soon! Get this CD, I promise you'll wear it out.

Americana Rock Mix: Episode 124 - Preempting The Pain

Tried to get a solid episode recorded before I'm not able to talk properly for a couple of days when I get this tooth pulled. Not much to say this episode, but it's definitely full of solid music. Enjoy!
