Adam Carroll Interview

I noticed a few things in listening to Adam's CD South of Town, which is his first CD, in that he has a very interesting sense of humor. "Dark and dank", says Adam Carroll. In the middle of the song South of Town you can hear Adam starting a verse as he almost cracks himself up. I enjoy a artist that is having as much fun singing the song as I am listening. Adam says "If I can my self laugh then I know it will past the test for others."{mosimage}During the research of Adam Carroll I came across a few reviews which pin Adam to the likes of Townes Van Zandt, Butch Hancock, John Prine and Bob Dylan. When I asked Adam who he thinks he is, he laughs and says "I just want to be me."You can hear the influence in his music of many other Texas song writers. The similarity to others gives a reference point for the listeners but he says this of his style "I am a folk singer mostly but the nice thing with Texas music is that you don't have to fit into one genre. Then you add a little twist to set yourself apart. " My next question, which I always ask of people, is do you feel you've made it? Adam says this to that question, "I guess. I tour. I am making a living and  I have a great time doing what I am doing plus it's very fulfilling. It's all a process; I am not really sure what making it is but, as long as I am in music I making it." I asked Adam how he enjoyed working with Lloyd Maines. Lloyd has worked with just about every other Texas musician. Adam recounts his experience with Lloyd "It was great. We met in 1998 at the Larry Joe Taylor Festival. Lloyd has a gift for getting a reaction from the artist. I was never intimidated working with him. Lloyd brought in the band to play on South Side to fill in and give the album texture like a painting. Lloyd will be working on the next album due out in May."{mosimage}Thanks again to Adam Carroll for taking the time to sit down with me and allowing AmericanaRoots.com to do this interview.  I would also like to thank the Propaganada PR group for setting up the interview.
